KYUSHU REGION

Kyushu is home to Mount Aso, which, with an altitude of 1,591 metres, is one of the largest active volcanoes in the World! The tectonic activity in the region makes it the ideal place to visit a hot spring; the Beppu springs are reputed throughout Japan for their healing properties.

The island is also famous for its porcelain, originating from the towns of Arita or Imari and its historic towns such as Kumamoto, a feudal town since the 17th century.

The JR Kyushu Pass gives you access to JR Kyushu trains for 3 or 5 consecutive days, allowing you to discover the charms of the third largest island in the land of the rising sun. There are three types of passes: the All Kyushu Area Pass, the North Kyushu Pass and the South Kyushu Pass.

Excellent overall. Easy to use. Trains are clean and on-time. People need to be aware of which trains require a reservation.

Very helpful to be able to secure a seat reservation and also change trains when one is running late.
