Horyuji Station is on the JR Yamatoji Line and is a 20 minute walk from Horyuji Temple in Nara. The Yamatoji Line is the western part of the Kansai Main Line. This runs from Kamo Station in Kyoto Prefecture to JR Namba Station in Osaka.
Station sign at present Horyuji is three stations from Nara Station (another station after JR Nara is expected to open in 2024). The journey takes 11 minutes and costs 220 yen.
Getting to Horyuji Temple from Horyuji Station
To reach Horyuji Temple from Horyuji Station walk the 20 minutes to the temple of take a local #72 or #81 bus. There is also a steady stream of taxis waiting to take visitors to the temple. Other local buses that stop outside the station are the numbers: #66, #67, #70 and #76. Alternatively if you don't ride the train, take a #97 bus from Nara Station or Kintetsu Nara Station to Horyuji-mae bus stop. Bicycles can be hired at the information office near the bus stop on National Highway 25 at the entrance road to the temple.
The station has a ticket office which is open from 6.30 am to 9 pm. There are coin lockers available at the station. The architecture of the station recalls traditional buildings in Nara with its tiered and tiled roofs. There is an escalator and elevator within the station building.
