The super Hokuto train to Sapporo with a Japan Rail Pass
With a Japan Rail Pass, the quickest way to Sapporo from Hakodate is to take the Hokuto or the Super Hokuto Limited Express on the Hakodate Line.

If you visit Hokkaido in winter, a direct train operates once a day via Niseko, the famous ski spot, and Otaru.

All the Limited Express trains have connections with the Hokkaido shinkansen in Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto.

0 KM - HAKODATEIf you are seated on the left-hand side of the train, you will have views of Lake Konuma, about 20 minutes after leaving Hakodate.

19 KM - 0H18 - SHIN-HAKODATE-HOKUTOShin-Hakodate-Hokuto is the Hokkaido Shinkansen station of Hakodate.

27KM - 0H29 - ONUMA-KOENAccess from here to Mt. Komagatake. There are hiking trails around the volcano or you can view itfrom the lakes: Onuma, or the smaller Konuma or Junsainuma. It is possible to hire pedal boats, motorboats and canoes,or to take a pleasure boat tour. As the train leaves the station, there are beautiful views of Lake Onuma on the right and Lake Konuma on the left.

112 KM -1H27 - OSHAMAMBEHere our journey continues on the Muroran Line, although it is possible to change here to travel on an alternative route to Sapporo via Niseko and Otaru.

154 KM - 1H50 - TOYANot all limited express trains stop here. You can visit Toyako, a caldera lake in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park. The G8 was held in Toya in 2008 and it is possible to visit the Summit Memorial Museum.

207 KM - 2H30 - NOBORIBETSUNoboribetsu-onsen is a short bus journey from the station. The main source of the hot spring water is Jigokudani (Hell Valley), which lies just above the town and displays hot steam vents, sulfurous streams and other volcanic activity.

275 KM - 3H10 - MINAMI-CHITOSEChange here for Shin-Chitose Airport Station, 3 minutes away by local train. It is the nearest airport to Sapporo.
